Installing VNC (Virtual Network Computer)

VNC provides a remote graphical display system. TightVNC is an enhanced version of VNC which is supported by the Gentoo portage system.

Install

Install VNC server.

emerge tightvnc

Set your password with the command vncpasswd.

Start the server with the command vncserver.
Stop the server with the command vncserver -kill :n, where n is the service id, usually 1.

Customizing VNC server

Setup data is found in /home/username/.vnc/.

To choose the X-window interface, edit xstartup:

• To work with KDE, comment out everything and insert startkde &.
  
• To work with WindowsMaker, comment out twm and insert wmaker &.
